1,5 milione packages of unused medicines disposed by pharma companies due to expiration date
In 2023, Czech pharmacies received hundreds of thousands more packages of antibiotics compared to the previous year. This prevented a recurrence of the situation antibiotics shortage. However, many packages delivered in previous years remained unused, leading manufacturers to dispose over 43,000 packages of pharmacy-dispensed antibiotics last year, along with an additional 60,000 packages of injectable antibiotics, according to the latest data from a survey of companies associated with the Czech Association of Pharmaceutical Companies (ČAFF). In total, manufacturers had to dispose of 1.5 million packages of medicines across therapeutic areas such as cardiology, oncology, and neurology last year.
